The key story for this week is the story of the Canaanites and the passage in which God warns them that their sin has not yet reached its fullness. We will focus on the mercy of God in this story, and how He is willing that none should perish and gives people so much mercy to turn from their sins. However, we must also recognize that we have free choice and must take responsibility for our actions. By the time Joshua enters the land of the Canaanites, it has been completely given over to sin and rejected God. We will discuss the shedding of innocent blood by human hand in the Bible, and the seriousness of child sacrifice in Canaan. We will delve into the story of Abraham offering up Isaac, and how this event foreshadows the sacrifice of Jesus on the cross. We will also reference Hebrews 11, where Abraham knew that God must raise Isaac from the dead.
