A Family of Churches

An introductionto Vintage Church

Vintage began in a movie theater in Harker Heights in 2014 and is now a family of churches across Central Texas. This is our story, what we believe, and how we help each other take steps closer to Jesus.

01 · History and name

How we got here

A movie theater, a bingo hall, a renovated club, and three more cities. Twelve years of the same vision in different buildings.

Founded January 19, 2014

With the help of our association of related churches around the country, and a committed group of local families, the vision became a reality as we gathered for launch team meetings in the fall of 2013 at Prospector Storage. As the group grew, the first Vintage Church formally launched on January 19, 2014, at Cinemark Theaters in Harker Heights, Texas.

After eighteen months of being a portable church in a movie theater, we leased our first permanent facility, a bingo hall that we would renovate and call home for a while. In May 2017, we made our first purchase at the intersection of Hwy 439 and FM 3219 in Harker Heights. This time we renovated an old club and turned it into a beautiful facility that we moved into in February 2019.

A year later, we would face a pandemic and yet, at the same time, feel the Lord calling us to expand while the whole world was shutting down. We began the launch process all over again, and in January 2021, Vintage Church Belton launched at the Grand Avenue Theater in Belton, Texas. In only a few short months, the Lord blessed us with a permanent building on FM 93 just outside of Belton. About the same time our Belton church was moving into the new building, the Lord began speaking again about more expansions. In the fall of 2021, we began holding launch team meetings in Liberty Hill, and in February 2022, we launched our third Location at Liberty Hill Middle School.

Today Vintage Church is a family of churches with thriving locations in three cities across Central Texas, and we know more are coming. Through every season of change and expansion, the vision of Vintage has remained intact. We are more enthusiastic than ever about our mission: Reach People, Make Disciples, and Contend in Culture. We believe this is just the beginning of what God has in store and are so excited that you are considering your part in this remarkable story.

Our name

Why the name Vintage

In Genesis 22, the Bible tells us the story of God’s promise to bless all the nations of the Earth through Abraham. We get a glimpse, thousands of years ago, of the promise that God made to save and redeem us through Jesus. Over 2,000 years later, His promise was fulfilled.

Even though culture changes, one thing will always remain: God’s Word. This is where the name “Vintage Church” originates. The same Gospel promised to Abraham that came through Jesus Christ serves as the foundation of our lives.

God’s Word is vintage, just as good then as it is now.

02 · Written before we launched

The Church We See

Prior to launching Vintage Church, Pastor Stephen and Kyla took time to write out a description of the church God had called them to build. Today, this document is a guide for all we do as a church family.

The church we see is more than a place or a weekend activity. It’s a spiritual family where Jesus is the center of our lives personally and our relationships collectively. The church we see is an unstoppable force for good that shines light into the darkest places of our world. It is a group of people who are saved by grace and empowered by the Holy Spirit who do God’s will on Earth.

The church we see respects and values every person as a priceless image bearer of God. The church we see is a refuge for people from every generation, culture, creed, and background. The Bible is our foundation. From cover to cover, it is the God-inspired, infallible story of Jesus.

The church we see exists for others and is passionate about reaching people who are far from God. We will stop at nothing to see God’s mission accomplished in our generation. We stand on the shoulders of those who have gone before us and accept responsibility for our time and place in God’s redemptive plan for humanity.

The church we see is growing larger each day as each member takes steps to get closer to Jesus and to His purpose for their lives. We find belonging as we stay connected, as we are equipped to serve, as we challenge each other to grow, and as we are empowered to lead in everyday life.

The church we see is a home for the whole family — a place where spirit is thicker than blood.

The church we see is full of spiritual contributors. We joyfully give our time, talent, and resources to build up our spiritual family as we expand the kingdom of God on Earth.

The church we see is making an impact in our region with locations across Central Texas. We are united by shared purpose and kingdom culture.

The church we see is a greenhouse for leaders to be equipped and deployed into the local church and marketplace. The church we see is contagious and is a model to other churches around the world.

The church we see is the church Jesus promised to build, and we are being built up together in it.

Pastor Stephen and Kyla Martin

03 · Our mission

Reach people. Make disciples. Contend in culture.

The mission of the Local Church has been the same for over 2000 years. Jesus commanded that we reach people far from God, we disciple those we reach, and we do it in the power of the Holy Spirit.

After Jesus’ resurrection, He appeared to His disciples in three different locations at three different times, each time adding to His instructions on what to do next. Once on the night of His resurrection, another on a mountain in Galilee, and finally just before His Ascension on the Mount of Olives.

  1. 01

    Preach the gospel.

    Mark 16:15-16

    Mark 16:15-16 · NLT

And then he told them, “Go into all the world and preach the Good News to everyone. Anyone who believes and is baptized will be saved. But anyone who refuses to believe will be condemned.”

  2. 02

    Make disciples.

    Matthew 28:18-20

    Matthew 28:18-20 · NLT

Jesus came and told his disciples, “I have been given all authority in heaven and on earth. Therefore, go and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit. Teach these new disciples to obey all the commands I have given you. And be sure of this: I am with you always, even to the end of the age.”

  3. 03

Contend in the power of the Holy Spirit.

    Acts 1:8

    Acts 1:8 · NLT

“But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes upon you. And you will be my witnesses, telling people about me everywhere—in Jerusalem, throughout Judea, in Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.”

04 · Our vision

Helping each other take steps closer to Jesus

Vision is often communicated as where you go instead of who you serve, but the Local Church is more than a destination; it is a family. As each member grows, we all experience joy and fulfillment.

When we surrender our lives to Christ, our spirit is born again. While we once lived controlled by our flesh (soul and body), we are now made new from the inside out. We now must start the process of sanctification by learning how to think like God and live according to His ways. We learn about God through His Word, the Bible.

The Lord directs the steps of the godly. He delights in every detail of their lives.

Psalm 37:23
  1. 01

We grow as a result of being planted.

    Psalm 92:12-14

    Psalm 92:12-14 · NLT

The righteous will flourish like a palm tree, they will grow like a cedar of Lebanon; planted in the house of the Lord, they will flourish in the courts of our God. They will still bear fruit in old age, they will stay fresh and green…

  2. 02

The purpose of our growth is to bear fruit.

  3. 03

    Bearing fruit takes time.

  4. 04

Only God causes us to grow.

    1 Corinthians 3:7

    1 Corinthians 3:7 · NLT

So neither the one who plants nor the one who waters is anything, but only God, who makes things grow.

  5. 05

God transforms us by changing the way we think.

    Romans 12:2

    Romans 12:2 · NLT

Don’t copy the behavior and customs of this world, but let God transform you into a new person by changing the way you think. Then you will learn to know God’s will for you, which is good and pleasing and perfect.

05 · Our doctrine

Essential beliefs

Essential beliefs make up our doctrine, and as Christians we must agree and be in unity concerning these beliefs.

All Scripture is inspired by God and is useful to teach us what is true and to make us realize what is wrong in our lives. It corrects us when we are wrong and teaches us to do what is right. God uses it to prepare and equip his people to do every good work.

2 Timothy 3:16-17

Our doctrine, 16 statements

The Bible

We believe the entire Bible is the inspired, infallible, authoritative Word of God and should be the supreme and final authority in our lives and faith.

2 Timothy 3:16-17; 2 Peter 1:20-21

One God

We believe in one God who exists and reveals Himself in three persons: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, and is the creator of all things seen and unseen.

Genesis 1:1; Colossians 1:16; Deuteronomy 6:4; 2 Corinthians 13:14

Jesus Christ

We believe Jesus Christ is God the Son, the second person of the Trinity. He was born of the Virgin Mary, lived a sinless life, performed many miracles, and died on a cross for our sins. He was raised from the dead on the third day in accordance with Scriptures, ascended to heaven where He is at the right hand of the Father, and will return again to establish His eternal rule as King over the new heavens and new earth.

John 1:1; 1 Timothy 3:16; John 3:16; Matthew 1:18-25; Romans 9:5; Hebrews 12:2; Philippians 2:5-6; Revelation 1:7

Humanity

We believe God created humanity, male and female, in the image and likeness of God. We believe life begins at conception and that our gender and sexuality are good gifts from God and likewise determined by God from conception. We believe every life is sacred because God is the originator of every life. We believe that sin separated man from God. Despite sin and separation, we believe all humans, male and female, from every tongue, tribe, and nation, are valuable to God, deserving of love and respect, and should be afforded the opportunity of the gospel of Jesus Christ.

Genesis 1:26-28; Genesis 2:7; Psalm 139:13-16; Matthew 19:4; Romans 5:12-21

Salvation

We believe that salvation is offered by grace through faith in accordance with repentance and belief in the death, burial, resurrection, and reality of Jesus Christ. His shed blood for our sins and resurrection from the dead means that we can be forgiven and restored into fellowship with God.

Genesis 1:27; Romans 3:23; 5:1; 6:23; Ephesians 1:7; Romans 10:9-10

The Church

We believe that the Church is comprised of all those who acknowledge Jesus as Lord and Savior, and that Scripture instructs believers to identify and regularly assemble with other believers to devote themselves to worship, prayer, teaching of the Bible, fellowship, and works of service.

Hebrews 10:24-25; Acts 2:42-47, 16:5

The Holy Spirit

We believe the Holy Spirit is the third person of the Godhead, and at the point of salvation the Holy Spirit fills each believer as a down payment of salvation to be a source of strength, assurance, and wisdom for daily life.

1 Corinthians 2:9-14, 6:19-20; Matthew 3:11; Acts 2:4, 38, 39

The Infilling of the Holy Spirit

We believe in a subsequent experience where the Holy Spirit fills a believer to overflowing and is empowered to preach the gospel with boldness and operate in spiritual gifts.

Joel 2:28-29; Matthew 3:11; Mark 16:17; Acts 1:5; 2:1-4, 17, 38-39, 10:38, 44-47

The Gifts of the Holy Spirit

We believe the Holy Spirit has supernatural gifts to distribute to Christians for the instruction and empowering of every believer to demonstrate the power, reality, and supremacy of God to the world. All believers are commanded to earnestly desire the gifts of the Spirit. These gifts always operate in harmony with the Scriptures and when operated with balance and order, these gifts will bring glory to God and the light of truth to the lost.

1 Corinthians 12:1-31; 14:1-40; John 16:13-14; Hebrews 2:4; Ephesians 4:16; 1 Timothy 4:14; 2 Timothy 1:6-7

Water Baptism

We believe all believers should obey Jesus in water baptism, by immersion, in the name of the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. We believe baptism is both a public profession of their faith in Christ as well as a spiritual sacrament where the old man is buried with Christ and a new man is raised to life.

Matthew 28:19; Acts 2:38, 8:12, 36-38, 10:47-48; Mark 16:16; Romans 6:3-7

Eternity and the Second Coming of Christ

We believe in the personal and imminent return of our Lord Jesus Christ and in the bodily resurrection of all people unto judgment. This judgment will bring everlasting life in the new earth for the saved and the punishment of hell and eternal separation from God for the lost.

Acts 1:11; 2 Peter 3:10-13; 1 Thessalonians 4:13-17; 2 Corinthians 5:10; Revelation 1:7, 20:4-6, 11-15, 21:1-5

Communion

We believe that the holy ordinance of Communion should be received regularly by believers walking in fellowship with the Lord Jesus Christ as a remembrance and celebration of what the broken body and shed blood of Christ accomplished for them on the cross.

Luke 22:19-20; 1 Corinthians 11:23-29

Biblical Marriage

We believe marriage is a covenant relationship between God, one man and one woman, for life for the purposes of mission, companionship, procreation, and demonstration of Christ’s relationship with the Church. The Bible limits the expression of human sexuality to a marital relationship between a man and a woman, which is the only legitimate and acceptable sexual relationship according to Scripture. All sexual activity apart from this context should be abstained from.

Genesis 2:24; Leviticus 18:22; Matthew 19:4-6; 1 Thessalonians 4:3-5; Romans 1:26-27; 1 Corinthians 6:9, 7:2

Tithing and Giving

We believe that Christians are called to be generous givers and to trust God with their finances. We believe the starting place for Christian giving is to return the first tenth of their income back to their local church as a way of honoring God and recognizing Him as first in their lives. Returning the tithe comes before the giving of other offerings and is the foundation of Biblical stewardship. We believe all tithes and offerings should be given cheerfully, out of obedience and in response to God’s Word and God’s goodness towards us.

Malachi 3:10; Proverbs 3:9-10; Leviticus 27:30; Matthew 23:23; 2 Corinthians 9:6-7

Israel and the Jewish People

We affirm that the Jewish people are God’s chosen covenant nation and that His covenant with Israel remains in effect (Genesis 12:1-3; Romans 9:4-5). We reject replacement theology and affirm that the Church has not supplanted Israel in God’s redemptive plan (Romans 11:1-2, 28-29). We believe salvation comes only through Jesus the Messiah (John 14:6; Acts 4:12), and at the same time, believe that God’s promises to Israel are irrevocable (Romans 11:29). The Church, made up of both Jew and Gentile, has been grafted into Israel’s covenant heritage (Romans 11:17-18), and we look with hope toward Israel’s future redemption (Romans 11:25-26).

We affirm and support Zionism, understood as the belief that the Jewish people have a God-given right to live in, govern, and defend their ancestral homeland, reflecting God’s faithfulness to His Word and covenant promises (Genesis 17:7-8; Ezekiel 36:24; Amos 9:14-15).

We oppose antisemitism in all its forms and commit to praying for the peace of Jerusalem (Psalm 122:6), blessing the Jewish people (Genesis 12:3), and supporting the flourishing of Israel and Jewish communities worldwide in alignment with God’s purposes (Zechariah 2:8).

Sanctity of Life

We affirm that all human life is created by God in His image and is therefore sacred and worthy of dignity, protection, and care (Genesis 1:26-27; Psalm 127:3). We believe that life begins at conception and that God is the author and giver of life from its earliest moment (Psalm 139:13-16; Jeremiah 1:5).

We also believe in grace and restoration where abortions have occurred, and we affirm that forgiveness, healing, and redemption are found through repentance and in the finished work of Jesus Christ (Psalm 34:18; Romans 8:1; Ephesians 1:7). We are committed to the protection of life through Biblical teaching and education, and through the pursuit of laws and public policies that defend the unborn (Proverbs 24:11-12). We believe the sanctity of human life is a central moral issue for all believers and one on which Christians must remain uncompromising in matters of civic responsibility, including elections and the political process (Proverbs 31:8-9; Matthew 5:13-16).

06 · Biblical discipleship

Not a system. A pattern.

Discipleship isn’t a system, but it does have a pattern and framework. Anytime you see repetition in the Bible, the intent is emphasis, and this parable is repeated in every synoptic Gospel.

Then Jesus said to them, “If you can’t understand the meaning of this parable, how will you understand all the other parables? The farmer plants seed by taking God’s word to others.”

Mark 4:13-20

01 · The footpath

We invite you to connect.

Connection is the first stage of discipleship. The Bible says that when we surrender our lives to Christ we are born again. Becoming a born-again Christian means we need connection to the body of Christ to grow and thrive; without it, we will die.

03 · Among thorns

We challenge you to grow.

At some point as we are connecting and serving, we will experience moments when the way we are living doesn’t line up with God’s way of living. In these moments we will have a choice to align our lives with God’s Word or to go our own way.

Mark 4:18-19

Mark 4:18-19 · NLT

08 · Leadership and structure

Servant leadership culture

By Jesus’ definition of discipleship, leaders are those who serve. Leadership isn’t about having the right answer every time or being perfect. But it is about having the right heart.

Every serve team member is a leader. You represent Jesus and our church to guests and members of our community.

We have defined in tangible and practical terms what the right heart looks like at Vintage Church. Allow these values to become your values over time as you serve in our spiritual family.

  1. 01

    Spiritual Family

The church is more than a place you go to, it’s a spiritual family you belong to.

    • Jesus is my King, and my church is my family.
    • You’ll leave me before I’ll leave you.
    • I want more for you than from you.
  2. 02

    Relational Unity

The effectiveness of the church is entirely dependent on our ability to remain unified.

    • I have a thick skin and a soft heart.
    • I am kind, considerate and respectful to everyone.
    • I guard my heart and refuse to be offended.
  3. 03

    Personal Discipleship

The strength of the church is best seen in our desire to follow Jesus and live our life His way.

    • Who I’m becoming is more important than what I’m doing.
    • I will do the next right thing.
    • I’m not where I want to be, but I’m not where I used to be.
  4. 04

    Servant Leadership

Leadership is about serving others and is a privilege, not a burden.

    • I am loyal and love others.
    • I serve enthusiastically.
    • I do what I say and graciously say what I mean.
  5. 05

    Operational Excellence

What we do matters and has an eternal impact on the lives of those we serve.

    • I care about my church more than Jeff Bezos cares about Amazon.
    • I never ask permission to take responsibility.
    • I will make it better.

We know none of us are perfect, but these are common areas that can impair the influence of the Serve Team and our ability to provide a safe Christ-like service to the Vintage Church family. If you begin to struggle at any time during the duration of your time on our Serve Team, please reach out to a Pastor for help and care. As a Serve Team Member, you are viewed as a culture carrier in the church. As a result, we ask that you make the following commitments:

By becoming a member of Vintage Church, I agree to follow Jesus as my Lord and Savior and to participate fully in the life of this spiritual family. Having been baptized and having affirmed the beliefs of Vintage Church, I willingly enter into this Membership Agreement, understanding that membership reflects shared faith, shared responsibility, and shared commitment.

I agree to belong to the spiritual family of Vintage Church and to treat every person with dignity, honor, and love as an image-bearer of God. I will pursue healthy, grace-filled relationships and commit to fighting for unity within the church. I agree to refuse gossip, division, and offense, and to practice Biblical conflict resolution marked by humility, forgiveness, and truth.

I agree to protect the unity and testimony of the church by representing Jesus and Vintage Church with integrity in my conduct, my words, and my online presence. I agree to honor and follow church leadership as they follow Christ and to submit myself to the Biblical authority and governance of Vintage Church, recognizing the responsibility entrusted to those who lead.

I agree to pursue personal discipleship by actively growing in my relationship with Jesus through prayer, Scripture, worship, and obedience. I affirm the Statement of Faith and doctrine of Vintage Church and commit to living in alignment with Biblical truth. I agree to live a life that honors Christ, turning away from sin and striving for holiness by the power of the Holy Spirit. I also agree to give regularly and faithfully to Vintage Church, recognizing generosity and tithing as a Biblical practice, an act of worship, and a responsibility of spiritual maturity.

I agree to serve others and advance the mission of the church by using my time, gifts, and abilities to build up the body of Christ. I will serve with humility, faithfulness, and excellence, understanding that leadership is a privilege and that every member plays a role in helping others take steps closer to Jesus. I agree not to use my role or influence within the church for personal or financial gain.

I agree to honor God through operational excellence by taking responsibility for my commitments, acting with integrity and accountability, and supporting the mission, vision, and direction of Vintage Church. I understand that no member or leader is perfect, and I agree to pursue growth, correction, and restoration when challenges arise rather than withdrawing or creating division.

By God’s grace and with the help of the Holy Spirit, I willingly enter into this Membership Agreement as a committed member of the Vintage Church family.
